What is a DBS Check?

A DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is a background check used in the UK to review an individual’s criminal record.

There are three levels:
  • Basic DBS – shows unspent convictions only
  • Standard DBS – shows spent and unspent convictions
  • Enhanced DBS – includes police records and additional checks

These checks are commonly required for jobs involving trust, finance, or vulnerable people.

Who is Clear Check?

Clear Check is a registered umbrella body that processes DBS applications on behalf of individuals and organisations. They are not a government website and charge an additional processing fee for handling applications

What documents do I need?

You will need:
  • Proof of identity (e.g. passport)
  • Proof of address (e.g. utility bill)
  • Additional documents depending on your situation

For some applications, identity checks may be done digitally through approved providers
